Sustainable finance as the new capital frontier

Kuala Lumpur, 18th February 2020 – Global Compact Network Malaysia (GCMY) successfully organised the first of the Business Leaders Lecture Series in collaboration with Axiata today.

The expert speaker was Arsalaan Ahmed, CEO of HSBC Amanah who spoke at great depth and expertise on the prospects of sustainable finance in Malaysia. The event was attended by more than 60 people, comprising of C-suite executives and sustainability officers from major corporations and researchers from reputable NGOs.

Arsalaan provided a primer on the impact of climate change and the need for corporate sustainability in the country, highlighted our central bank’s efforts in promoting the latter and the global trend of universal investors shifting capital flows toward sustainable assets.

“In the near future all loans will be linked to some form of sustainable performance, hence businesses need to integrate societal impact into their bottom line, not just leave it at profits,” said Arsalaan during his lecture, as he posited with certainty that sustainable finance will dominate the capital markets in time to come.

It ended on a very engaging note as the market and sustainability leaders present offered their views and insights during the Q&A post-lecture.

Overall, the event was a success due to the high-profile turnout, sharing of industry-leading insights and productive discussions.
